CIFOR-ICRAF Annual Report 2022. Interconnected: Trees, people, planet

For the world’s trees and forests – and for those who steward them – 2022 offered several glimmers of hope, with United Nations agreements to protect biodiversity and to compensate nations for climate change-related losses and damages, and the Forest and Climate Leaders’ Partnership.

It was also the first year in which CIFOR and ICRAF operated as one fully merged organization, concluding with the creation of a new leadership structure for 2023 under Chief Executive Officer Éliane Ubalijoro and supported by Chief Operating Officer Dr Robert Nasi.

Our scientists brought the latest research findings and analysis on forests, trees and agroforestry to major global forums, the Global Landscapes Forum (GLF) brought together thousands of people worldwide to both virtual and hybrid events, and Resilient Landscapes celebrated a new partnership with the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.

This report features milestones towards our solutions to five global challenges – deforestation and biodiversity loss, climate change, dysfunctional food systems, unsustainable supply and value chains, and inequity – illustrated by specific landscapes across Latin America and the Caribbean, Africa and Asia.
