Caravan - Research that works for people and communities

This issue of Caravan looks to the field to present approaches and examples that have been developed through our research with partners in many dryland countries, and can be deployed to benefit smallholder farmers in many more locations. These technologies bring resistance to drought, temperature extremes, or diseases that damage and destroy food production. New integrated solutions are also proposed, such as combinations of crops and livestock, diversification of cropping systems, or innovative ways to manage natural resources in a food production system. An equally critical aspect is an enabling policy environment and national systems which are needed to move scientific innovations smoothly to the field.
