From traditional practice to top climate solution, agroecology gets growing attention

The recent Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) report emphasises the need for action to reduce emissions in the strongest terms yet, and one of the key strategies it outlines for policymakers is agroecology. According to the IPCC, agroecology, which includes techniques ranging from intercropping to agroforestry, is a solution that can "contribute to both climate mitigation and adaptation." Agroecology, which is based on traditional knowledge, has the potential to solve multiple problems at once, including the biodiversity crisis and food insecurity. Top food systems author Anna Lappé discusses the power and promise of agroecology to mitigate and adapt to climate change as part of a special series.
