Asia-Pacific region moves forward with plans to mitigate the risks of AMR in defence of its crucial aquaculture industry and to protect human and animal health

The Asia-Pacific region is taking important steps to tackle antimicrobial resistance (AMR) associated with aquaculture in order to to mitigate risks to humans, animals and fish stocks, the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) announced today.

Antimicrobial resistance is recognized as a serious global threat to human and animal health and a global action plan on AMR was endorsed in May 2015. FAO has set out its own plan of action to support this, and a series of initiatives to address AMR issues, ranging from animal health to the general aquaculture sector, has emerged through global and regional projects.
