Desertification can be prevented. The same strategy that helps to prevent desertification is also effective in addressing problems caused by drought and other forms of land degradation that cause problems with food production from the affected lands. 

This article presents the concept of Sustainable Land Management in fighting desertification and lists examples of succesful practices already applied in diverse areas.
