FAO Right to Food Newsletter, December 2021, Issue 12
On Human Rights Day, This year´s theme is a call to find solutions based on human rights to reduce inequalities. Over the past three months, we have celebrated other important observances, including FAO´s very own flagship World Food Day. In the last quarter of the year, we reached a milestone. New resolutions adopted by the UN Human Rights Council are a springboard to promote a human rights-based approach to climate action recognising for the first time the human right to a healthy environment. At the same time, voices at COP 26 warned that climate change threatens the enjoyment of human rights. During the CFS 49, we heard more calls to put people at the center of agrifood systems transformation. We also hail FAO's announcement to join the School Meals Coalition. We cannot wrap up these highlights without referring to our new publications which showcase the connections between the work of consumer organizations and the right to adequate food.
