Webinar: Applying the elements of agroecology to agroforestry

As a mode of production and an agricultural system that utilizes land and natural resources in a fundamentally different way than industrial agriculture, agroforestry is a key example of agroecology in practice and represents an important solution for the transformation of food systems. On 25 April 2022, FAO's Forestry and Plant Production and Protection Divisions co-hosted a webinar entitled “Applying the elements of agroecology to agroforestry: Transforming food systems for a more sustainable and resilient world”. The webinar featured a keynote presentation on the 10 elements of agroecology and a moderated panel discussion with expert speakers bringing in a range of perspectives on agroforestry, including policy, financing, extension, and knowledge creation. Panelists discussed some of the overarching questions surrounding agroforestry, including its role in climate change adaptation and mitigation, nutrition security and biodiversity conservation as well as the importance of managing trade-offs and creating enabling conditions.
