Planting sugar beets instead of sowing - reducing the time on weed control

Various practical trials are currently underway in Switzerland to reduce the effort required for weed control in organic sugar beet cultivation. In this video, organic consultant Milo Stoecklin from the Fondation Rurale Interjurassienne shows how sugar beet is planted instead of sown. The advantages of this method are: longer growing season, headstart over weeds and fewer problems with snails and soil fleas. The relatively high costs are to be reduced by reducing the number of plants per hectare.
