In late 2015, the world pledged to transform our future by committing to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which foresees reforms providing women equal rights to economic resources, as well as access to ownership and control over land and other forms of property, in accordance with national laws.

This gave further impetus to the joint work of FAO and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development on ensuring gender equality in land ownership and control in the Western Balkans that is being presented today at a virtual conference.

The event, co-organized by the International Union of Notaries, showcases good practices and lessons learned from eight years of collaboration in the Western Balkans region and provides an opportunity to look into the future and share plans for continued action on gender equality in land ownership and control.
