How does Conservation Agriculture work: understanding soil role, an example from Timor-Leste

This practice explains how conservation agriculture (CA) works, its limitations, and how to identify practical solutions to challenges farmers face in Timor-Leste.

For the adoption of CA practices, the CA principles must be well understood by those providing advice and by those implementing it – extensionists and farmers. This practice describes how CA works, the limitations, and how to identify practical solutions to address farmers' challenges.

It is crucial to understand and acquire some knowledge of soils. And on related issues such as increased soil fertility, reduced erosion, increased yield, increased resilience to climate hazards and particularly drought (climate change adaptation), reduced greenhouse gas emissions (climate change mitigation), reduced land and environmental degradation, increased forest cover, increased biodiversity and increased water sources.
