Government-led integrated approach for delivery of services to smallholder poultry farmers
This practice demonstrates how simple cost effective interventions such as low cost protein rich feeding, de-worming, vaccination, low cost housing, egg-candling, use of bamboo for poultry feeders and waterers, have strengthened household poultry production systems of tribal farmers in the Bastar region of Chhattisgarh in India. A key factor that has ensured the success of these interventions is the development, training and support provided to village facilitators (para-vets) who are equipped with the requisite knowledge and skills to deliver regular animal health services, particularly vaccination at the door-step of smallholder poultry rearers.
