Under the decision of the Ministers Council no. 2731 of December 28th, 1956, on the establishment of Fundulea Research Institute for Corn Cultivation, Experimental Corn Cultivation Institute from Turda was also established. Initially, the institute was organized as of February 1st, 1957 – within the perimeter of the didactical farm of the Agricultural School Centre no. 1 from Turda, a unit which is coordinated by the Institute of Higher Agricultural Education from Cluj. The name of Experimental Corn Cultivation Institute was kept until 1961, when, as a result of the unification with the Experimental Agricultural Institute from Câmpia Turzii, it became the Agricultural Experimental Institute from Turda (1962), afterwards, the Agricultural Research Institute from Turda (1974) and, as of 2002, the Agricultural Research and Development Institute from Turda.
