This short article is based on the Ugandan book “Food and Nutrition in Uganda”. The author contends that while our political leaders and agricultural extension workers have long concentrated on reducing poverty and increasing food production, nutrition has been neglected. Food security is expected as long as large quantities of food are produced. But food security is more than just a stomach-full. Because hunger impairs physical labor capacity, it decreases agricultural output and economic growth.
