ParFish Toolkit: a participatory fisheries stock assessment approach

Without access to reliable information to enable farmers to make better use of their natural resources, a majority of artisanal fishing communities are unable to halt trends towards reduced fish catches. Stock assessments are an important component for managing fisheries. These assist in the provision of advice on recommended exploitation rates in order to maintain sustainability of resources. However, there is a lack of stock assessment methodologies that support data-poor small-scale fisheries. This practice describes how the Participatory Fisheries Stock Assessment (ParFish) software can help fish farmers better manage their fisheries.
