Society is increasingly aware of the strategic nature of food. The agri-food sector is postulated as one of the pillars of our democratic societies, due to its leading role in the production of healthy, safe and sustainable food. However, farmers and ranchers suffer serious problems that make their profession difficult. The lack of profitability due to the difficulty of obtaining fair prices, climate change, the difficulties in achieving an adequate generational change... Elements that place families dedicated to agriculture and livestock in Spain at a difficult crossroads.

Family farming is the most sustainable model that guarantees a more diverse, resilient and connected agri-food sector with the territory in which it is located.

To analyze the situation of agriculture and livestock in Spain and Europe. To bring together and provide data that shows the reality of the different productive sectors. To propose ideas and solutions to the problems of family agriculture and livestock.

For all these reasons, the UPA Rural Studies Foundation edits and publishes, since 1994, the Yearbook of Family Agriculture and Livestock, which in 2024 has the title: "Social emergency. Without family agriculture and livestock there will be no future for the rural world."

La sociedad está cada día más concienciada del carácter estratégico de la alimentación. El sector agroalimentario se postula como uno de los pilares de nuestras sociedades democráticas, por su papel protagonista en la producción de alimentos sanos, seguros y sostenibles. Sin embargo, los agricultores y ganaderos sufren graves problemáticas que dificultan su profesión. La falta de rentabilidad por la dificultad de obtener precios justos, el cambio climático, las dificultades para lograr un adecuado relevo generacional... Elementos que sitúan a las familias que se dedican a la agricultura y la ganadería en España en una difícil encrucijada.

La agricultura y ganadería familiar son el modelo más sostenible y que garantiza un sector agroalimentario más diverso, resiliente y conectado con el territorio en el que se asienta.

Para analizar la coyuntura de la agricultura y la ganadería en España y en Europa. Para aglutinar y facilitar datos que muestran la realidad de los diferentes sectores productivos. Para proponer ideas y soluciones a los problemas de la agricultura y la ganadería familiar.

Por todos esos motivos, la Fundación de Estudios Rurales de UPA edita y publica el Anuario de la Agricultura y Ganadería Familiar, que en este 2024 lleva como título: "Emergencia social. Sin agricultura y ganadería familiar no habrá futuro para el mundo rural".
