The Vidra commune is located in the southern extremity of Ilfov county, at the border with Giurgiu county and to the south of Bucharest municipality, on the banks of river Sabar. It consists of the villages Vidra, Creţeşti, and Sinteşti. The Sabar river is a tributary of Argeş river, forming together a fertile meadow, favourable to agriculture.

According to the census conducted in 2011, the population of the Vidra commune counts 9516  inhabitants, having increased since the previous census in 2002. Due to the favourable pedoclimatic conditions, the main occupation of the commune’s inhabitants is vegetable growing, particularly protected vegetables (in solaria). The Vidra farmers and their vegetables have become a renowned brand for a long time now and are appreciated by the inhabitants of Bucharest and lots more.
