Climate Change Strategy of the Small Producers’ Organizations for Fair Trade in Mesoamerica

Roadmap 2012-2015

This document is an update of the Strategy on Climate Change of the CLAC for Mesoamerica (Central America and Chiapas, southern Mexico), which extends geographical scope to the Dominican Republic, an island state in the Caribbean Sea. It incorporates the latest scientific findings on climate change manifestations and impacts. It also identifies current efforts and progress in the various countries of the region and establishes a roadmap towards 2015, Identification and approximate location of OSPs by country as well as a set of Terms Reference to facilitate the implementation of the Strategy, are included as appendices to this release.

The 2010-2012 Strategic Plan, adopted by the CLAC General Assembly in November 2010, included within the crosscutting lines the following: environmental protection, climate change, gender equity, food security and self-sustaining management. The Strategic Plan 2013-2015, prioritized as crosscutting lines: gender, climate change, food security, child labor, generational renewal, and labor safety and welfare. In this sense, the Climate Change Strategy updated for 2013-2015, addresses within their respective lines of action and goals, the issue of climate change adaptation in an integrated and synergistic manner with the CLAC Strategic Plan 2013-2015, incorporating gender equity and ethnicity, livelihoods and life quality of SPs for FT families; which includes food security and household income, among others.
