Open Farm Sunday is an annual event involving almost 400 farms that organise activities for over 200000 visitors. Since it began in 2006, over 1350 farmers have opened up their farms, welcoming more than 1.25 million visitors and creating a high-profile national event that attracts major sponsors. Farmers are provided with advice and resources on how to organise and promote their activities while the public can search on a dedicated national website for a participating farm near them. Activities organised can include anything from farm walks, tractor and trailer rides, and demonstrations, ‘meeting’ farm animals and, of course, tasting local produce.
