Nainyoiye Community Development Organization (NCDO) is an indigenous peoples' organization working with the nomadic people in Samburu County. The organization creates a forum where nomadic communities in the district develop appropriate development strategies, which are used to develop and implement NCDO programmes that aim to reduce hunger and poverty. NCDO operates at the grassroots level and maintains the communities trust in program implementation and ownership. NCDO was established in 2006 as a community-based organization to address the health, nutrition, food security, water, sanitation and education needs of the pastoralists in Samburu, with special focus on women and children. The organization's vision is that of an empowered Samburu pastoralist community effectively realizing and exploiting its potential to improve their livelihood while safeguarding the interests of the future generations. The mission is to fight poverty, disease and illiteracy among the Samburu community through self-reliance and reduced dependence on external support; while the goal is to improve the quality of life of the nomadic pastoralists in Samburu District. Among the objective we find: to initiate and support community initiatives that discourages child labour; to promote education for all in the Samburu community especially child herders; to promote the sustainable utilization and conservation of the environment and natural resources; to increase income opportunities among the disadvantaged and marginalized members of the community; to facilitate community development initiatives; to advocate for the human rights of Samburu community who have remained marginalized for years.
