有機3.0時代的總目標是促使對基於有機原則的真正 的可持續農業體系和市場的廣泛理解和接受，同時 貫穿一種努力創新、向最佳實踐不斷改進、透明誠 信、包容合作、體系完善和真實價值定價的文化。 有機3.0時代的概念是通過將有機定義為一種現代和 創新的體系來尋求解決前述挑戰，突出強調其成果 與影響。我們面臨的各種重大問題，諸如應對和適 應氣候變化，獲取資本和應有的收入，保護動物福 利，確保獲得土地、水、種子和健康的飲食，避免 糧食與農業系統的浪費等等，不可能都依靠不斷擴 容的標準和規則來解決。因此，我們需要採取一種 更加全面完整的和動態的發展模式。 有機3.0時代的核心是描述性的而非指定性的,其模式 是基於結果的和不斷適應當地環境的，而不是制定 一套最低準則以實現一個最終不變的結果。有機3.0 時代將仍然基於那些有清晰定義的最低要求，諸如 世界上許多的政府規章和民間體系以及《IFOAM標 準要求》所維護的內容,但該模式還將從這些基本要 求向外擴展：呼喚一種持續改進的文化，並將根據 各地的優先順序，通過由民間和利益相關者所開展 的行動，向最佳實踐努力。我們可從《IFOAM最佳 實踐指南》看到相關的具體介紹。
