A workshop on the evaluation of food safety and quality, was held in Cuba 20–24 May at the Central Agricultural Health Laboratory Unit, Ministry of Agriculture, Havana, Cuba. Experts and specialists from all the provinces of the country attended, as well as officials from the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), the Codex Cuba Secretary. The event was also attended virtually by experts and directors of the Pan American Center for Foot-and-Mouth Disease and Veterinary Public Health (PANAFTOSA), Dr C. Susana Borroto, a One Health/ Pan American Health Organization (PAHO)-Cuba Consultant, Engineer Mariana Pérez Peniche, from the Quality Department of the Ministry of Agriculture, Dr Margarita Corrales, PANAFTOSA/PAHO, Dr MV Jonathas de Souza Vieira, Food Safety Consultant  from the Interamerican Network of Food Analysis Laboratories (INFAL), Dr MV Marcos P. Vieira Cunha, Consultant in Food Safety and antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and Dr MV Marvis Suarez Romero, from the Office of Environmental Regulation and Safety (ORSA).

The Codex Contact Point in Cuba also conducted a workshop for the celebration of World Food Safety Day, 7 June. Around 70 participants attended, including experts, technicians and managers of the food chain in Cuba, as well as the health authorities and the Codex Focal Point of Cuba. Virtual participants included specialists and managers from all over the country and food chain stakeholders including those of non-state management in the provinces of the country.

Country representatives from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the PAHO, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), and the World Food Programme (WFP) also attended. The event was organized by the Ministry of Public Health in coordination with the National Codex, the Ministry of Agriculture and other organizations.

In addition a workshop was held on 6 June at the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment of Cuba in celebration of World Food Safety Day with the presence of all entities in the food chain, importing and exporting entities and the presence of the WFP and FAO. These activities were coordinated by the National Codex Committee of Cuba and its focal point with the actors of the food chain and other interested parties.
