World Food Safety Day/ The Latin America and Caribbean region celebrates

For the fourth consecutive year, this 2024, the Regional Office of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO RLC), the Pan American Health Organization (WHO/PAHO-PANAFTOSA), the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA), the International Regional Organization for Plant and Animal Health (OIRSA) and Ecuador as Chair of the FAO/WHO Coordinating Committee for Latin America and the Caribbean (CCLAC), join forces to celebrate World Food Safety Day  with a 1-day virtual seminar with the objective of bringing together the different actors involved in the continuum of the food chain to share their knowledge and experiences.

The event will feature the participation of experts addressing two specific food safety topics: i) Strengthening national food control systems; ii) Estimating the global burden of foodborne diseases. There will also be a segment where the voices of academia, civil society, industry and government will be heard, with speakers from the following countries of the region: Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Saint Lucia and Trinidad and Tobago, to answer questions from the point of view of the sector they represent: What is my responsibility in the area of food safety; How to be prepared for unforeseen events; How can I be prepared for unforeseen events; What is my responsibility in the area of food safety?
