Happy Birthday! FAO’s GHP and HACCP Toolbox for Food Safety is one year old

10/06/2024

In a live event on World Food Safety Day 2023, FAO launched a new website comprising a series of practical food safety management guidance documents based on the Codex Alimentarius General Principles of Food Hygiene. The website focuses on Good Hygiene Practices (GHP) and the Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points system (HACCP) and is called: “FAO’s GHP and HACCP Toolbox for Food Safety”.

The toolbox aims to give all those involved in food safety management in the food sector, be it competent authorities, consumers, food business operators, whether on the farm or further along the value chain, and regardless of size and location, guidance on how to produce, process and distribute safe food according to internationally recognized practices. This is the basis for public health and improved trade.

Time moves fast and a year has gone by in a blink of an eye. To date, over 36300 users from forty different countries have engaged with the GHP and HACCP Toolbox for Food Safety. In addition, the toolbox is being used to guide FAO projects that contain a food safety component. It is serving as a starting point to engage with the Codex General Principles of Food Hygiene and the team in charge of the toolbox is reviewing comments and planning the translation of the related pdf documents.

The website is already available in the six UN official languages with an explanatory video in both English and Spanish available on YouTube.

Let’s blow out this first candle and wish the toolbox many happy returns of the day!
