Mrigal - Growth

Mrigal grows well in lentic and lotic environments. Although there is a high degree of variability in growth depending on the environment, growth in natural waters is rapid during the first four years of life. In natural waters (rivers), mrigal is known to attain lengths of just under 1 m (Figure 1). The range of von Bertalanffy growth parameters recorded for mrigal from natural habitats (Godavari and Ganga rivers and lake Govindgarh) are L∞ (cm) = 77.1 to 140.0, K = 0.084 to 0.291, and to = -0.01 to -0.46.
