Rohu - Nutritional deficiencies

Deficiency diseases
Rohu culture practices are either extensive or semi-intensive and in which the total or part of the dietary requirements are met by natural food. Hence there is little chance of occurrence of nutritional deficiency diseases.  It is mainly for this reason that little is known about nutritional deficiency symptoms. John and Mahajan (1979) reported on folic acid and cyanocobalamin deficiencies. During fry rearing stages of rohu vitamin C, more specifically ascorbic acid deficiency symptoms are reported to be of common occurrence (Mukhopadhyay, Chattopadhyay and Mitra, 2003). Tacon (1992) provided a review of deficiency symptoms of common carp and these symptoms continue to be used as reference for identification of deficiency syndromes in Indian major carps including rohu. Some of these information is summarized in Table 13 and 14.
