As with most fish species growth of silver carp is variable depending on the environment. The following set of figures (Figures 4 and 5a, 5b, 5c) describe the natural growth rate of silver carp in two reservoirs in China.
Chinese national standards for silver carp fry and fingerling in terms of length and weight are provided in Table 3. In general the growth rate of silver carp under farming conditions is lower than that recorded for wild fish (Liu, et al., 1996; Yang and Li, 1996; Chen, 2004).
