DRAFT INTERNATIONAL CONVENTION FOR THE CONTROL OF THE SPREAD OF MAJOR COMMUNICABLE FISH DISEASES

THE TEXT OF THE DRAFT CONVENTION

10     The Consultation first reviewed generally the comments of Governments and interested organizations on the draft Convention. In this connexion the delegate of Norway indicated that his Government had also sent its comments on the draft Convention. The Consultation then considered document FID:CFD/76/3 - Revised draft Convention for the Control of the Spread of Major Communicable Fish Diseases, incorporating original text, explanatory notes and new text, prepared by the FAO secretariat after consultation with OIE. The new text was discussed Article by Article. The revised text, hereafter, was approved by the Consultation subject to the comments, reservations and possible alternatives contained in the notes to some of the revised Articles.

11     At the outset of the discussions on the text of the Convention, the delegation of the United Kingdom speaking as one of the Member Countries of the European Economic Community (EEC) stated that the European Economic Community was considering the adoption of Community directives on the subject of fish disease control. The EEC would reserve the possibility of taking a position with respect to the proposed Convention and of submitting its own views and comments at a later date. The views and comments of the EEC Member Countries on the draft Convention and Annexes should thus be viewed against background.
