ABSTRACT

This document is the final report of the twelfth session of the Committee for Inland Fisheries of Africa, which was held in Yaoundé, Cameroon, from 2 to 5 December, 2002. Major topics discussed were: reports of some intercessional activities, interactions between inland capture fisheries and aquaculture and their contribution to food security and poverty alleviation in sub-Saharan Africa, promoting the implementation of the International Codes of practice for the responsible use of alien and genetically modified aquatic species in African fisheries and aquaculture. There was also a seminar on the African experience in commercial aquaculture and community involvement in fisheries management.
