Symposium on the Planning and Implementation of Fisheries Management and Development Programmes
For the attention of Governments
Accord higher priority to the improvement of fishery statistics (paragraph 13 of the report).
Incorporate into national manpower development plans the training of technical personnel and research workers and phase properly the absorption of trained experts into the civil service (para. 13).
Promote the participation of the people in the implementation of the programmes and increase the awareness of the decision makers (para. 13).
Increase the use of the African Regional Aquaculture Centre (ARAC) (para. 14).
Integrate aquaculture development into land and water use plans in order to reduce conflicting uses (para. 14).
Monitor and evaluate the implementation of fishery development programmes (para. 15).
Increase regional collaboration in fisheries research development and management of international inland water bodies (para. 16).
Increase effort in the management of reservoirs, lagoons and international river systems (para. 17).
