Project titles: Emergency support to fisher folks to resume sustainable marine fishing affected by Cyclone Idai (TCP/MOZ/3702) and Building back sustainable artisanal fisheries affected by Cyclone Kenneth (TCP/MOZ/3703)

Duration: May 2019 to July 2022

Country coverage: Mozambique

Objectives: The main aim of these projects is to rehabilitate the fisheries sector following the damage caused by the two cyclones and resume sustainable fishing. Safety at sea training is being provided to 500+ cyclone affected small-scale and poor fishers. Moreover, improvements to the traditional “Moma” fishing boat designs were made, which should contribute to safer fishing vessels.

Project title: Emergency livelihood support to the fishing communities in Hodeidah (OSRO-YEM-705-CHA)

Duration: December 2017 to March 2019

Country coverage: Yemen

Objectives: The project aimed to:

  1. Provide essential items for economic and food insecure fishers affected by the ongoing conflict to allow them to return to fishing,
  2. Increase the food supply to local markets and secure income and food for fishers families, and
  3. Increase the safety of fishers at sea.

2 900 lifejackets (Personal Flotation Devices) were distributed to the fishers and 100 selected fishers received specific training on safety at sea.

Project title: Enhancement of Food Security and Resilient Livelihoods Programme

Duration: January 2017 – December 2019

Country coverage: Yemen

Objectives: Enhancement of resilient and food secure rural livelihoods supported by appropriate investments, a well-established food security information system and better natural resource management.

This project supported fishers to restart their fishing operations and distributed 250 SOLAS compliant lifejackets to fishers to increase their safety at sea.
