Project title: Project for enhancing livelihoods and food security through fisheries, with nearshore fish aggregating devices in the Pacific Ocean (FishFAD)

Duration: April 2019 to April 2022

Country Coverage: Fiji, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Palau, Samoa, Tuvalu, Vanuatu

Objective: Improve safety at sea for small-scale tuna fishers, including through:

  1. Sea safety activities.
  2. De-risking small fishing craft, through the provision of emergency floatation and emergency propulsion.
  3. Identification of appropriate forms of sea safety equipment to be carried on small fishing craft.
  4. Community awareness and sea safety education.
  5. Improved vessel designs – fit for purpose.
  6. Implementation of national, regional and international standards in vessel construction, carrying capacity, stability and seaworthiness.
