Project title: Project for enhancing livelihoods and food security through fisheries, with nearshore fish aggregating devices in the Pacific Ocean (FishFAD)
Duration: April 2019 to April 2022
Country Coverage: Fiji, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Palau, Samoa, Tuvalu, Vanuatu
Objective: Improve safety at sea for small-scale tuna fishers, including through:
- Sea safety activities.
- De-risking small fishing craft, through the provision of emergency floatation and emergency propulsion.
- Identification of appropriate forms of sea safety equipment to be carried on small fishing craft.
- Community awareness and sea safety education.
- Improved vessel designs – fit for purpose.
- Implementation of national, regional and international standards in vessel construction, carrying capacity, stability and seaworthiness.
