World Food Safety Day has arrived, this year under the theme “food safety: prepare for the unexpected”!
World Food Safety Day is facilitated by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the World Health Organization (WHO). For this year’s campaign, which coincides with the 20th anniversary of the FAO/WHO International Food Safety Authorities Network (INOFSAN), governments, food businesses and consumers are being encouraged to make sure they know how to keep their food safe even when the unexpected happens. Events have been organized by food safety authorities, governments, universities, food safety professionals and many more the world over on various topics related to emergency preparedness and other subjects.
FAO has prepared an interactive quiz for you to test your food safety knowledge and the Codex Alimentarius Secretariat has produced a case study story describing how INFOSAN works with food safety authorities and how governments use Codex texts to manage food safety incidents.
You can join in the day by signing up to events or by posting key messages on your social media platforms. Help us spread the word using the hashtag #WorldFoodSafetyDay – because food safety is everyone’s business!
