Summary:

As a Member State of the European Union (EU) Ireland implements EU law including that relating to GM food and feed as well as the deliberate release of GMOs.

In the summer of 2018, the Irish Government approved the transposition of Directive 2015/412 of the European Parliament and of the Council, which will enable Ireland to opt out of the cultivation of GM crops that are approved for cultivation in the EU. The Government will keep the policy on GMO cultivation under review in light of scientific developments in this sector.
