The Eight Session of the Intergovernmental Technical Working Group on Forest Genetic Resources will be held at FAO headquarters in Rome, Italy from 26 to 28 November 2024. The meeting will open on Tuesday, 26 November 2024 at 10:00 hours. The Session will be held in Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish.

As requested by the Commission, the Working Group will consider the finalization of The Second Report on the State of the World’s Forest Genetic Resources (Second Report) and the implementation of the Global Plan of Action for the Conservation, Sustainable Use and Development of Forest Genetic Resources. The Working Group will also review the Global Plan of Action in light of the findings of the Second Report. The Commission further requested the Working Group to consider cross-sectoral matters, such as the role of genetic resources for food and agriculture in mitigation of and adaptation to climate change and options for a procedure for the ad hoc identification of new and emerging issues for inclusion in the Commission’s Multi-Year Programme of Work.
