FOREST EUROPE

FOREST EUROPE is the brand name for the Ministerial Conference on the Protection of Forests in Europe. It is a high level and voluntary political process for Pan-European countries that focuses on intergovernmental dialogue and cooperation on forest policies in Europe.

Since the 1990s, FOREST EUROPE has been providing an intergovernmental platform for promoting the sustainable management of forests in the Pan-European region. The organization has also been working with various partners to monitor its implementation using an internationally agreed upon set of criteria and indicators.

The results of the 2020 Pan-European assessment were reported in the State of Europe’s Forests 2020, which provides recent official figures and information on European forests, their management, policies and institutional and legal frameworks in the FOREST EUROPE signatory countries.

The data for FAO's Global Forest Resources Assessment 2020 and the State of the Europe's Forests 2020 were collected and reviewed simultaneously for both processes using the online FRA platform.

FAO also hosts the Pan European dataset on quantitative indicators for sustainable forest management.
