Successful Conclusion of Caribbean Subregional Workshop on Forest Products Statistics in Trinidad and Tobago

FAO in collaboration with the collaboration with the International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO) and support of the Centre for Agriculture and Biosciences International (CABI) conducted a Subregional Workshop on Forest products statistics from 12 to 14 April 2016 in St. Augustine, Trinidad and Tobago.

The workshop brought together 30 statistical officers from national statistical offices and forestry administrations from 14 countries in the Caribbean, Central and South America. Representatives from Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname and Trinidad and Tobago attended the event.

Participants shared with peers from other countries the statistical systems of forest products and discussed the issues and barriers in the collection, compilation and dissemination of the data. Through the discussions, the participants also were able to propose solutions to improve the availability and quality of national forest products statistics

The workshop is part of FAO’s statistical capacity development programme committed to assist stakeholders to obtain reliable and up-to-date information on forest products for informed decision-making. The programme helps countries enhance their statistical capacity for forest products. Since 1984, FAO has conducted over 25 regional and national workshops on forest products statistics.
