Key Outcomes:

1. Presentation of the Forum Key Messages at the UN Biodiversity Conference, in Sharm El-Sheikh, on 25 November 2018.
2. Launch of promotional CPW animation video - Who we are, what we do, how we can help you.
3. Launch of key guidance and knowledge base - “Towards a sustainable, participatory and inclusive wild meat sector” report.

The Second Wildlife Forum brought together people from across the globe to share their experiences and seek creative solutions to issues on the wild meat crisis, the unsustainable use of wildlife, and the health and security of people and wildlife.

Discussions from the Forum will inform the priorities for the Post-2020 Biodiversity Framework and the Thematic Assessment of Sustainable Use of Wild Species of the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES).

‘Sustainable Use for Conservation and Livelihoods’ was the theme of the Forum. Over 170 representatives of government, inter-government and non-government organizations, Indigenous Peoples and local communities (IPLCs), youth, practitioners, and businesses attended. Additionally, another 500 participants followed the event online, through the Facebook page of the International Council for Game and Wildlife Conservation (CIC).

The Forum took place on 21 November 2018 as a parallel event to the COP 14 to the CBD, in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt. It was organized by the CPW and the African Union Commission (AUC). The outcomes of the Forum were brought to the attention of the Egyptian Presidency and delegates, via a statement delivered during a COP Plenary Session, presided over by the Egyptian Minister of Environment.

The event concluded with the announcement of the CIC’s biennial Markhor Award 2018 winner, the ‘LIFE+ Return of Rural Wetlands’ project of the Finnish Wildlife Agency’.
