9th World Forest Week

Empowering communities, restoring landscapes & conserving ecosystems

Diverse partnerships, innovative results

WEDNESDAY 24 JULY 2024
08.00–09.15 CEST
SHEIKH ZAYED CENTRE

Overview

Addressing landscape degradation and deforestation is crucial due to their significant environmental, biodiversity, and livelihood impacts. In response, governments and conservation organizations have united to accelerate forest landscape restoration initiatives, leveraging technical expertise and partnerships to promote biodiversity conservation and sustainable land management.

This event will spotlight collaborative efforts and innovative solutions tailored to meet the urgent need for forest landscape restoration action. These include knowledge-sharing and collaborative platforms, programmatic and integrated initiatives, and forest restoration approaches developed through strategic partnerships.

Objectives

  • Accelerate forest landscape restoration initiatives and share insights from the IUCN’s forest conservation and restoration initiatives to bolster global efforts by translating policies into implementation.
  • Highlight how IUCN and FAO are collaborating on restoration monitoring via the Restoration Barometer and FAO's Framework for Ecosystem Restoration Monitoring (FERM) tool by signing a data-sharing agreement related to GBF Target 2 between IUCN and FAO.
  • Announcement of Global Environment Facility-funded Joint Initiative of the Collaborative Partnership on Forests to advance primary forest conservation through partnership strengthening and coordination of stakeholder support.
  • Through this exchange, participants will gain actionable insights to navigate the complexities of landscape restoration, fostering more resilient ecosystems and sustainable communities.
