One of the innovative kitchens in Rural Gambia

In rural areas, cooking is a challenge with traditional methods often causing both health issues and environmental damage. The newly introduced kitchens are changing this narrative, paving the way for progress that is touching hearts and transforming lives.

The innovative kitchens are designed to reduce firewood consumption and minimize harmful smoke emissions, thereby addressing two interconnected challenges. For local communities, this change is a breath of fresh air - both literally and figuratively.

"Before, collecting firewood was a difficult task that took time away from my studies," explained Babucarr Sarr, a student beneficiary from the Upper River Region. "Now, we have more time to focus on learning, and our environment is also thanking us."

The impact on the environment is equally profound. Deforestation, a dire concern in the region, is being mitigated as the demand for firewood decreases significantly.

"I remember seeing fewer trees each year, and it worried me," said Omar S Darboe, a senior teacher at Limbanbulu Lower Basic School. "These kitchens are like a promise for our future generations - a promise of a greener and healthier environment."

The partnership's reach goes beyond practical improvements. It's sparking hope and igniting dreams for a better tomorrow.

"These kitchens are a symbol of progress for us," said Alhagie Mama Bah, Principal of Munyagen Basic Cycle School in the North Bank Region. "They show that when organizations care and collaborate, change becomes a reality. Our students are inspired to be part of something bigger."

As this partnership continues to make strides, it's clear that the impact extends beyond the tangible. The kitchens are not just cooking appliances; they are catalysts for change, turning challenges into opportunities.

"I can cook faster now, and the food tastes better," said Sunna Ceesay, a cook. "But more than that, I feel like we are part of a movement for a healthier planet."
