Hayad’s Story: How FAO is Helping Puntland Pastoralists Towards a Sustainable Future

FAO, through UN Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) funding, conducted a livestock Cash+ activity in Laasqoray district targeting 1,850 households, fifty percent of which are headed by women. Each household in the programme received 3 months of cash and a livestock livelihood package, helping pastoralist like Hayad maintain their income in the face of drought.

The project was an anticipatory action one that targeted the most drought affected districts in Somalia. The districts were pre-selected by the donor (CERF) and FAO conducted the activity.
