Recognizing the role of indigenous women: A day in the life of Telvina

A look at the life of Telvina, an indigenous woman of the Wounaan Community in Panama. There are approximately 185 million indigenous women in the world, belonging to more than 5 000 different indigenous groups. Despite the broad international consensus about the important role indigenous women play in eradicating hunger and malnutrition, there are still limitations in the recognition and exercise of their rights.

As Telvina herself says: “Because we are women, because we are poor, because we are indigenous... We are invisible.”
