Testimonies of Dimitra Clubs’ leaders Series - Niger: Women’s Leadership, Dialogue and Social Cohesion

Through the clubs, women and girls improve their leadership skills and self-esteem. As a result, rural women feel more empowered, both socially and economically, and play a key role as recognized leaders in improving social cohesion and peace in their communities.

Ramatou lives in a village of herders situated next to a village of farmers and joined a Dimitra Club just a year ago. She provides examples of the benefits brought to her by the clubs in terms of improved leadership, dialogue in the household, participation in community decisions, etc. She also highlights the key role of the Dimitra Clubs in improving dialogue between herders and farmers and how this has been instrumental for women’s economic empowerment.
