Addressing nutrition and gender equality in a synergic way: findings from The status of women in agrifood systems and the way forward

The Technical Network on Nutrition and the Technical Network on Gender came together to discuss gender equality, food security and nutrition

Virtual Event, 29/01/2024

Better nutrition offers significant opportunities for reducing wasting, stunting, underweight, micronutrient deficiencies, overweight and diet-related non-communicable diseases, and for accelerating progress towards achieving all the SDGs. However, worldwide, food insecurity and access to healthy diets disproportionately affect women and people living in rural areas. Despite some progress made, women continue to be marginalised in agrifood systems. Women’s access to land, inputs, services, credit, markets and digital technology continues to lag behind that of men, underpinned by discriminatory social norms affecting women and girls specifically.

In this context, and building on the joint webinar: How to address nutrition and gender equality in a synergic way under FAO’s Strategic Framework 2022-2031, the Technical Network on Nutrition and the Technical Network on Gender once again teamed up for a joint event. The Technical Networks play a crucial role in fostering an environment for knowledge exchange and collaboration among technical professionals. The objective of the joint webinar was to discuss and reflect on gender gaps in agrifood systems and to identify areas of collaboration and upscaling for the biennium.
