The city of Rustavi hosted a Global Goals Festival – Future in Focus. The event was organized by the United Nations in Georgia in cooperation with the Rustavi City Hall.

One of the main highlights of the event was FAO’s Green Corner. FAO’s country office in Georgia organized the exhibition of the agricultural plants, seeds and flowers together with the workshop in gardening for children and adults. The famous Georgian gardener Zura Shevardnadze and his assistants gave an opportunity to more than 200 children to plant the desired vegetables and flowers into the pots, also decorated by them in the FAO’s Green Corner.  The aim of the workshop was to support the SDGs 2 and 15 – No Hunger and Life on Land – by promoting balcony gardening, small agricultural production, protection of environment, also, by showing that human life depends on the earth for our sustenance and livelihoods.

The Festival saw a series of other activities in the Rustavi City park organised by the United Nations other agencies to highlight some key areas of sustainable development – reduction of poverty, human rights, education, health, etc.

The Festival concluded with the appointment of UN Goodwill Ambassadors for SDGs and a concert.

The Global Goals Festival in Georgia was the part of the international Global Goals Week which brought together individuals, governments, businesses, civil societies, international organizations and other partners during the UN General Assembly in New York.  

The event kicked off a national campaign for the SDGs aiming to encourage the engagement of the Georgian society in the achievement of the national SDGs.
