12/06/2017

Deputy Ministers of Agriculture   Iuri Nozadze and Revaz Asatiani opened the presentation of a book entitled Good Agricultural Practices in Apple Production.  This publication by FAO Georgia experts is founded on European experience with Georgian agricultural reality taken into consideration.

The book provides comprehensive guidelines for apple producers. It contains advice for all phases of apple production, describing in detail the principles of forming apple orchards, rejuvenating and refreshing old gardens, fertilizing and irrigating the apple trees, protecting from pests, harvesting, sorting, packaging and storing the yield following the good agricultural practices. The publication also provides a general description of the apple production in Georgia.

FAO produced the book under the project Capacity Development of the Ministry of Agriculture, funded and supported by the Austrian Development Cooperation (ADC).

In addition, FAO produced an educational video on apple pruning in which the FAO’s agricultural expert demonstrates the best practice of apple pruning. The book and the video are the first additions from the series of Good Agricultural Practices. Books and videos on nectarine, peach, nut and tangerine will be issued in the near future.

Representatives of the government, private sector and NGOs attended the presentation.
