International Day of Forests 2020 photo contest

05/03/2020

Capture extraordinary and unusual forest plants or animals with your camera!

Did you know that forests are home to about 80% of the world’s land animals and plants? From rainforest ants to tiny tree frogs, mountain gorillas to green anacondas, towering coast redwoods to mountain ash trees, our forests are teeming with life. This extraordinary biodiversity helps forests adapt and survive in the face of pressures such as climate change, wildfire and pests and diseases, as well as providing many benefits to people including food, shelter, medicine, energy and income.

To celebrate the International Day of Forests on 21 March and this year’s theme, Forests and Biodiversity, we’re asking you to take photos of extraordinary and unusual forest plants or animals. They might have an interesting appearance, behave in unexpected ways, have unique benefits, or they might be extraordinary because of what they represent for local communities.

Send us a picture and you could win an action camera!

Deadline for entries is 16 March 2020.

How do I enter?

To enter the contest, just follow these three steps:

  1. Take a photo of an extraordinary and unusual forest plant or animal.
  2. Fill in the online entry form, tell us what your photo shows and why that particular species is so extraordinary and unusual, and attach the photo.
  3. Don’t forget to post your photo if you have a Twitter, Flickr or Instagram account, using the International Forest Day hashtag: #IntlForestDay.

Entries will be judged in three categories and the prize for each category will be an action camera:
