Consultation on land cover and crop-type mapping for Libya

FAO Geospatial Unit and the Libyan Center for Remote Sensing and Space Science also known as LCRSSS organize a natoinal consultation on land cover and crop-type mapping in Libya on 14 July 2022. The consultation is dedicated to national experts from various organizations including universities, LCRSS, and the Ministry of Environment and Ministry of Water Resources. The objective of the consultation isto review past land cover legend, propose a new system and legend, and a plan for its development during the next months. The new national land cover reference system will be presented with proposed land cover legend to support the ongoing projects in Libya.

TOverall, the consultation aims at contributing to strengthen the national technical capacities for the development of an updated national land cover dataset, focusing on crop-types to support the implementation of two parallel projects to support projects: “Evaluation of irrigation, infrastructure crop mapping and estimation of agricultural water use-ICAWU” (OSRO/LIB/100/AFB) and the “Monitoring, evaluation and rationalization of water use for Agriculture Sector in Libya” (OSRO/LIB/002/ITA). Both projects aim at improving crop and water productivity and use of land and water resources.
