Training on the use of Remote Sensing/GIS for land cover and crop monitoring in Turkmenistan
The Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection (MAEP) of Turkmenistan has requested that FAO support the continued development and consolidation of its land administration system.
FAO has been providing support to MAEP and its Land Resources Service (LRS) under the TCP Project "Support to the Establishment of a Digital Land Cadastre" (TCP/TUK/3901) by drafting a long-term strategy (roadmap) for a modern digital geospatial data infrastructure in Turkmenistan, modernizing the geodetic reference network and piloting satellite positioning and optimizing business processes for land cadastre.
A training program was organised virtually to provide technical support to MAEP from 7 to 9 June 2023 on the use of Remote Sensing/GIS for land cover and crop monitoring with an emphasis on traditional non-cloud-based approaches.
Knowledge and skills obtained through the training will help the LRS of the MAEP to build a more efficient system for forecasting and monitoring agricultural quotas by using GIS/RS technologies.
