Air pollution hotspots in Lao People’s Democratic Republic Analyzing spatio-temporal dynamics of air pollution indicators and potential drivers in Lao People’s Democratic Republic

Year published: 03/02/2022

Lao People’s Democratic Republic is facing an air pollution burden, with drivers including a growing industrial sector, the developing economy, an increase in vehicle numbers, and a recent surge in investment (domestic and foreign) in the mining, hydropower and agricultural industries. Several atmospheric pollution indicators (nitrogen dioxide (NO2), sulfur dioxide (SO2), ozone (O3), aerosol optical depth (AOD) and the ultraviolet aerosol index (UVAI) were analyzed to understand the spatio-temporal dynamics of atmospheric pollution indicators in Lao People’s Democratic Republic for the period 2015–2021 and to determine the pollution hotspots.
