EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean (GFCM) Working Group on Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated Fishing (WGIUU), including the session of the Compliance Committee (CoC) on the clarification process, was held online on 19 May 2021. The meeting carefully reviewed progress made during the two-year intersessional period in the implementation of GFCM decisions as well as in the transmission of data in the context of the identification and clarification process. The commitment of contracting parties and cooperating non-contracting parties (CPCs) was praised, despite the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on the work of national administrations, and outstanding hurdles to full compliance were identified and discussed, including in view of resuming the provision of technical assistance to CPCs. The compliance tables for the year 2021 were adopted. The meeting also encouraged that further progress be urgently made in the development and implementation of catch documentation schemes.
